Eating Out During Pregnancy
When you found out that you were expecting, many thoughts probably ran through your mind. How will I prepare for this baby? What changes will my body go through? How will I be sure that I am getting enough nutrients through my diet? All of these thoughts are completely normal! While getting ready for baby will require some extra planning and changes to your diet, there is no need to worry. You will still be able to enjoy many of the foods that you enjoy and will even be able to dine out without feeling guilty as long as you remember to make smart choices when it comes to food and enjoy everything in moderation!
During your pregnancy, there will plenty of days and nights that you do not feel like slaving away in the kitchen. The idea of going out to eat and allowing someone else to prepare your meal may sound like a great idea, but it can also be somewhat scary since you are not totally sure of the nutritional content and safety of your meal. It is still possible to have some control over what you are putting in your mouth even if you are not actually in the kitchen.
The first rule of thumb is to choose a wise restaurant. If you know that you are not supposed to eat sushi during pregnancy, going to a sushi bar would probably not be a good idea! Stick with places that you know and are comfortable with. If you plan ahead, there will typically be something on the menu that you can eat without worrying about the safety of your developing baby. A good idea is to always start with something green. Most restaurants offer salad choices and they are a great healthy way to start your meal. Just be sure to stay away from dressing with raw eggs such as Caesar. If you are not sure about something, do not hesitate to ask your waiter. You are better safe than sorry when it comes to your diet!
Plenty of restaurants now offer online menus and include all nutritional values on their websites. It may be a good idea to take the time before you leave the house to browse through the menu and decide what you will eat before you even arrive. This will give you time to make a well informed decision without anyone rushing or pressuring you at the table.
Eating out at a restaurant can be a bit tricky during your pregnancy but it does not have to be off limits. Just because you are not directly preparing your meal, it is still possible to be well informed on what you are eating. Just remember to do some research, ask plenty of questions, and make well-informed decisions when it comes to your meal. Remember, you are pregnant and that will definitely make people much more willing to accommodate you and your dietary needs! So get out of the kitchen and allow someone else to wait on you!
